EP 01 · The Next Generation Sings
Same God — Live From the Back Row
A room full of young people, hands raised, singing Same God together — filmed from the back row, with the real sound of the congregation.

Sunday worship at our church, filmed from the back row — the first song of this series.
I stand in the back row on Sunday mornings. From there, you cannot see anyone's face — and I have come to think that is exactly right. What you can see is a hand going up in front of you, and row after row of young backs, all singing the same words at the same time. Nobody made them come. Nobody can make a roomful of young people sing like that. You cannot see their faces. You do not need to. You can hear them.
The song is Same God, by Elevation Worship. Listen to what it is saying: it names the God of Jacob, the God of Moses, the God of David — and calls Him the same God now. Not a new God for a new generation. The same one, carried into this room by new voices.
The Light of Faith Has Never Gone Out
Sometimes, the deepest stirrings in a life come from moments that look perfectly ordinary. Every morning, when I see the sunlight rise again and light up the world before me, a warmth rises in my heart — and gratitude. I often think: another new day.
The Lord has given us one more day of life — a chance to begin again, to keep going, to keep loving, to keep growing, and to keep discovering everything in this life that is worth treasuring.
Whenever I travel and see the astonishing sights of the natural world, and feel the power held within it, my thoughts turn, without my willing it, to the Lord. Those majestic mountains, those vast oceans, the light at the moment of sunrise, the awe-inspiring power within nature — all of them make me feel more deeply the greatness of the Lord's creation.
To me, these are not merely scenery. They are part of faith itself. They remind me that in this wide and beautiful world, we have so much to be thankful for. And every new morning is a precious grace.
Recently, there is one more thing that has brought me particular comfort. When I see more and more young people drawing near to the Lord again — willing to know the faith, willing to step back onto this road — my heart fills with emotion, and with hope.
We sometimes worry: as times change, will the younger generation slowly drift away from faith? Will the faith we cherish fade, little by little, as the years pass? But when I see these young lives seeking the Lord again, what I feel is not loss. It is hope.
So the road is still being walked. So faith has not disappeared from the younger generation. So even as the world keeps changing, there are still those willing to stop, to think again about the meaning of life, to seek the Lord's leading, and to keep growing in faith. What a precious comfort that is.
Whether you are young or old, whether you have only just begun to know the Lord or have walked the road of serving Him for many years, when you see a sight like this, a hope may be kindled in your heart again. Because faith was never one person's journey, and it does not belong to any single age or generation. We can encourage one another, hold one another up, and keep growing on our own roads through life.
Sometimes we need the grandeur of nature to feel anew the greatness of the Lord's creation; sometimes we need the choice of one young person to see again the power of faith. And sometimes a single ray of morning sunlight is enough to remind us: life is still going on, hope is still here, and we can still meet the new day with a grateful heart.
For someone walking a life of devotion, to see faith carried on — to see more lives drawing near to the Lord again — is a comfort beyond words. Because we know the road of faith has never truly been broken.
There are still people walking it, still people seeking, and still people willing to pass this hope on to the next generation. Like the sun that rises every morning — even after the night has fallen, the light always comes again.
The road of faith is still going on. The light of faith has never gone out. And the hope we hold is still growing, in life after life, generation after generation. May we, whatever season of life we are in, keep walking the Lord's road with gratitude and with hope.
Every Sunday night, this page will hold one more of those songs — a short clip from the back row of our church, the real sound of the next generation singing. Come back and listen. And if you are praying for a young person tonight, know this: somewhere, a room like this one is singing for them too.
