First time in Taipei?

Taipei sits in a basin crossed by the Keelung and Tamsui rivers. A clear first day usually means one civic landmark, one skyline view, and one night market — then you can fan out to Dadaocheng or Shilin–Beitou.

3 ways to experience Taipei

None of them is “the best”. Each one gives up something to get something else.

Taipei Essentials

Memorial hall and creative park by day, Taipei 101 and Elephant Mountain before dusk, then Raohe for street food.

Why this route

  • • It lines up the civic core, the skyline, a hill viewpoint and a night market without doubling back.
  • • Taipei 101 and Xiangshan answer the same question from two heights: what the basin looks like.
  • • Ending at Raohe keeps dinner simple after a long outdoor climb.

Good for

  • A first visit with one full day
  • Skyline photos without a second trip
  • Mixing landmarks with one night market

Trade-offs

  • • Xiangshan is steep stairs; skip it if knees or weather disagree.
  • • Raohe is busiest after dark; earlier and the food stalls feel half-asleep.
  • • Little neighbourhood browsing — that is the Local route's job.
